Weddings at Firle
For the first time in the history of Firle Place, we are now able to offer civil ceremonies to our couples in a choice of beautiful locations which each work perfectly dependent on the size and style of your wedding day. This welcome addition to the Firle Place wedding experience allows us to take you on the most beautiful journey from ceremony through to reception with your wedding party and guests able to enjoy many facets of the House and Estate. Civil ceremonies can be held in The Courtyard, The Great Hall, Little Hall, Old Biliard Room or The Georgian Riding School.
The Courtyard
Firle Place has an exquisite atrium-style Courtyard which sits just behind its breathtaking Blue Doors (as featured in the 2020 film adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel which was filmed at Firle Place). Guests enter via the gated entrance and Four Squares topiary garden, through the Blue Doors and archway to take their seats in the Courtyard. A peaceful and serene space, the Courtyard sits within the House itself with The Great Hall as its backdrop. This allows for a wonderful al fresco style ceremony with bride and groom standing beneath the archway, with views across the Estate behind them, as they say their vows.
Capacity – Seated 150, Standing 200
The Great Hall
The Great Hall is one of the most historic rooms of the House which has never before been a feature of weddings at Firle Place. Featuring some impressive historical features including a floor to ceiling Van Dyck painting creating a breathtaking backdrop as couples say their vows, the Great Hall boasts a huge fire place, original Tudor stone floor, floor to ceiling windows and double doors opening out on to the Courtyard.
Capacity – Seated 120, Standing 150
Little Hall
Little Hall is an intimate space just off The Great Hall for smaller weddings of up to 30. At the foot of the famous Firle staircase and adorned by a glorious 18th century chandelier and works of art, Little Hall works well for small ceremonies followed by reception drinks and wedding breakfast in either The Great Hall or The Old Billiard Room. Little Hall can also be used as an extension of The Great Hall to increase capacity or as a bar and dancing area.
Capacity – seated 30, standing 50
The Old Billiard Room
The Old Billiard Room was originally one of the formal dining rooms of the House and now provides a more intimate space for civil ceremonies. Featuring Regency-style wallpaper, fire place, oil paintings and elegant bow window looking out to the front of the House over the Estate, The Billiard Room is a perfect choice for smaller wedding parties.
Capacity – seated 50, standing 70
The Georgian Riding School
The Georgian Riding School, with its expansive space and stunning oak-beamed ceiling, is one of Firle’s most popular sites for wedding receptions. For couples who don’t wish to book an additional, separate area of the Estate for their civil ceremony, it is now also possible to hold a civil ceremony within The Georgian Riding School itself.
Weddings at Firle Place
Whatever your dream wedding looks like, Firle Place has the perfect reception venue, from the The Georgian Riding School – a stunning Grade 2* listed, barn-style building – to the South Lawns or walled Herb Garden, which are both perfect for a marquee wedding right in front of the main house.
For more intimate weddings we are able to offer a range of locations in the house to suit a range of budgets, where social distancing can easily be adhered to.
